Abstract

Our research investigates the political utility of the term gap through the specific case study of San Francisco’s Chinatown by examining different types of guided tours through the neighbourhood. Building from De Certeau’s notion of ‘pedestrian speech acts’ and Pierre Nora’s concept of ‘lieu de mémoire’, we ask how peripatetic performance might further the historiography, one that foregrounds women and human trafficking in particular.
